A master plan for the Oasis

The refurbishment of the Goldfields Oasis is part of a detailed Master Plan which aims to transform your local recreation centre into a vibrant, diverse, accessible, and modern community hub with something for everyone to enjoy.

Since January 2022, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder embarked on an ambitious Master Planning process to refurbish, redevelop and transform this iconic facility at the heart of our city.

To achieve this vision the City has gathered valuable input from our community and stakeholders to better understand to ensure the future development caters to the diverse needs and desires of residents and Goldfields Oasis members.

Background

In March/April 2022, the City conducted extensive community and stakeholder consultation including:

  • Council
  • City's Commercial Business Committee
  • City staff
  • User groups
  • State Sporting Associations
  • Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries
  • Community Survey

The community survey received a total of 753 responses.

Following this consultation, the City appointed a leisure planner to conduct a facility audit, feasibility study, assessment, and concept plan for the refurbishment and redevelopment of the Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre.

A draft Master Plan was presented to Council in May 2022, with recommendations to progress with concept plans and upgrades to the outdoor area as well as the capital renewal and maintenance of the existing facility assets over the next ten years. The other aspects of the Master Plan would be reviewed and considered further into the redevelopment roadmap.

Phase One - Outdoor Area Redevelopment

Following the feedback received for what our community and stakeholders would like to see in the Outdoor Area, concept plans have been prepared and the City is ready to commence preliminary works in preparation for the full redevelopment of this area.

Stage One - Preparation works and installation of temporary facilities

This includes decommissioning irreparable equipment (slide and FlowRider) and replacing the space with temporary facilities (see below image) in line with plans for Stage Two.

This first stage includes the addition of an outdoor sauna and spa, a decking area with shade sails, and gardens. The outdoor pool will also be opened on a regular basis. The outdoor sauna and spa can be repurposed or moved in the future as further development is undertaken.

That's right! We're excited to be giving the bathrooms (including shower and changing areas) a fresh and modern look this year. There will be some disruption to amenities during this time and we ask patrons for their patience as works progress.

To find your nearest bathroom please follow the signs or ask a member of the Oasis team.
