Working Together for Burt Street’s Future

The City continues to work closely with Burt Street business owners to discuss the impact of current roadworks, listen to feedback, and identify further opportunities for support.

We remain committed to our local businesses, activating our historic Boulder Central Business District, and ensuring Burt Street remains a vibrant place for residents and visitors.

Recent comments have raised questions about what support is in place. To provide clarity, we’ve outlined below what’s been done so far, what’s planned, and how businesses and community members can get involved moving forward.

What the City has done/is doing now

  • Met with Burt Street business owners and tenants in February to listen to concerns and gather feedback.
  • Reviewing our project planning process to reduce disruption to businesses and the public.
  • Delivering a range of school holiday activities to attract foot traffic and shoppers
  • Hosting community events as part of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Heritage Festival in April and May
  • Roads upgrades to the value of $3.2 million (2024/25 FY)
  • Provided $20,000 (cash and in-kind) through the ACTIV8 KB initiative for business-led activations in our central business districts
  • Committed to supporting a Burt Street Celebration Event once the new footpaths are complete in the new financial year

What is planned

  • A meeting is scheduled for 30 April with Burt Street businesses to consult on plans for footpath upgrades in the new financial year.
  • Footpath upgrades and repairs of up to $3 million are anticipated in the planned budget for the 2025/26 FY (to be endorsed by Council).
  • City-supported Burt Street event celebrating the revitalised precinct prior to the end of 2025
  • Showcasing Burt Street businesses through a dedicated promotional campaign during the upcoming footpath repairs
