What Is Micro-Surfacing?

Micro-surfacing is a specialised process involving a prepared cold mixture of bituminous emulsion and carefully selected aggregates. This blend is customarily crafted on-site and applied in an exceptionally thin layer. A precision-engineered screed, manoeuvred by the paving machine, expertly levels the material to ensure an even, impeccable finish.

This innovative product primarily leverages the structural integrity of the original pavement, accurately reflecting any existing cracks in the underlying surface. The curing mechanism is contingent on the gradual separation of water from the bitumen within the emulsion. Typically, this process takes approximately one to three hours for the material to attain the requisite level of curing suitable for traffic.

Upon completion, the micro-surfacing treatment presents a flawlessly smooth surface, often mistaken for traditional asphalt.

Why Do We Micro-Surface?

Mirco-surfacing is a way of preserving the road by dramatically extending its life. It is significantly more cost-effective than asphalting while giving off the same look.

Micro-surfacing is effective for roads suffering from:

  • lack of skid resistance
  • oxidation
  • ravelling
  • rut damage
