Project Details
We are building a new roundabout at the intersection of Wilson Street and MacDonald Street as part of ongoing efforts to improve city roads.
The intersection has become a key traffic route following the development of the nearby Coles complex and shopping precinct. It is used daily by a range of road users and pedestrians, including school and TAFE students, local residents, service vehicles, shoppers and those attending the Kingsbury Park Youth Precinct.
This project will replace the existing intersection layout with a single-lane roundabout, providing clearer traffic movements, improved visibility and safer conditions for drivers and pedestrians.
Funding for the project has been secured through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, supporting targeted safety upgrades at higher-risk locations.
What the project involves
Works will include:
- Construction of a new single-lane, four-leg roundabout
- Earthworks and pavement upgrades at the intersection and approaches
- Installation of new concrete kerbing, pram ramps and pedestrian islands
- Footpath and ramp upgrades to improve accessibility
- Relocation of existing services where required
- Installation of new street lighting for improved night-time visibility
- Updated signage and line marking to support traffic flow
- Landscaping to enhance the streetscape and environmental outcomes
Traffic and Access Impacts
During construction, the Wilson and MacDonald Street intersection will be closed for the safety of the community and construction crews.
- Nearby residences will be able to access their properties via the rear laneway
- Traffic detours will be in place and clearly signed
- The ramp off the Coles complex on Wilson Street will be closed
- Emergency services and key stakeholders have been notified in advance
