New Sewer Main Extension Project

Ensuring sustainable services for a growing Kalgoorlie-Boulder

As part of our commitment to supporting the city’s growth and future-proofing essential infrastructure, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is undertaking a significant upgrade to our wastewater system.


Project Overview

A new sewer main will be installed along Johnston Street and Gatacre Drive, between Kingsmill Street and Travaskis Street, to meet increasing demand and ensure reliable wastewater services into the future.

What to Expect

Working Hours:

Work will be taking place:

  • Monday to Saturday between 6am to 6pm.
  • Sundays between 8am to 4pm in select locations only.
  • The schedule may vary due to weather or unforeseen circumstances
  • No noisy work will occur near noise-sensitive areas on Sundays or public holidays


Construction Activities:

You may notice:

  • Construction vehicles and machinery
  • Site lighting during low-light hours
  • General works activity in the area


Traffic:

Major road crossings will be micro-tunnelled to minimise disruption. Roads will remain open during construction at the following locations:
  • Gatacre Drive near the Senior Street intersection
  • Gatacre Drive near the Johnston Street intersection
  • Kingsmill Street

High volumes of construction activity are scheduled between Kingsmill Street and Gatacre Drive from early April through to late May 2025. Please refer to the map below for construction areas and main entry and exit points.

Pedestrian Access:

The pedestrian bridge that crosses the drain and connects Johnston Street to Nanson Street and Davis Street will remain open for as long as possible during construction. There will be a short period when a temporary bridge is installed to maintain pedestrian access.

Scheduled Night Work:

Please be advised that night works will take place from Monday, 28 April to Friday, 3 May, with road closures in place from 8pm to 5am.

Survey works will be conducted across sections of Kingsmill Street, Gatacre Drive, Trevaskis Street, and Seinor Street. Appropriate detour signage and on-site traffic management will be in place to ensure safety.
