Mobility safe travel across the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Mobility mapping

As part of the City's Access and Inclusion Plan, creating an accessible city is a key priority for improving the lives of our residents and visitors. We’re committed to working with our community in providing accessible places and a range of options for travelling in and around the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Our commitment to Universal Accessibility

Last year, we welcomed a wheelchair pilot team from Australian-owned and operated Briometrix, to analyse and review the user experience for anyone using wheels on footpaths – including wheelchairs, prams, strollers, and other mobility aids.

Using modern mapping technology, wheelchairs were turned into mapping tools with specially trained ‘pilots’ and devices installed to track routes around the City.

Two key outcomes of the project include the development of a Mobility Effort Map which assists residents and visitors with barriers to accessibility to plan their trips around the city. It identifies hazards, repairs, and maintenance requirements that assist the City’s Engineering department when planning future civil works.

*Effort is based on the slope of the path, the surface condition, and the cross slope of the footpath.
