Improving our footpaths
The City is committed to enhancing pedestrian safety, accessibility, and ensuring our footpaths are durable for the long term. This program schedule focuses on undertaking immediate works to repair, replace and maintain footpaths in the Kalgoorlie and Boulder CBD areas between April - December 2024.
With over 65 locations identified as part of the program, the City will invest an additional $ 2 million in the 23/24 financial year, taking the overall expenditure on footpaths to $4 million.
Objectives
- Ensure pedestrian safety first by addressing identified priority footpaths requiring immediate repairs
- Address and prioritise the maintenance backlog of identified damaged footpaths
- Focus on high-traffic areas, particularly Hannan Street and Burt Street
- Replace paver footpaths with reinforced high-strength concrete in selected areas for long-lasting footpaths
- Enhance accessibility by integrating features for visually or mobility impaired residents
- Optimise resources as much as possible (including contractor availability) to complete works on schedule
Scope of works
There are two main components of this program:
1. Immediate maintenance and repairs: These works will target high-risk areas with broken or hazardous footpaths.
2. Footpath Replacement: Areas identified for replacement will transition will see unstable brick paving replaced with exposed aggregate concrete, providing a more durable footpath solution for the long-term.
